One Tank Trips: Circle B Bar Reserve

Several of the sisters at Church over the last year have mentioned Circle B Bar Reserve for their large alligators and pleasant walking trails, so of course I added it to our list. We made a trip there earlier this year, before the twins latest hearing test.

We started out by visiting the nature center. I would hands down rate it as our best nature center ever. There was something for everyone. The twins had plenty to see and climb on and explore, often these museums and nature centers really aren't geared to little ones, but this one was perfect for them. Kate's favorite part was finding all the little hidden surprises like the log panels that open to reveal creatures that make dead logs their home, and of course the giant alligator beside it. Rebecca's favorite part was feeling the different pelts and trying to determine what animal they came from. Britt liked examining the flatland landscape and how water moves and filters while Ruth's favorite was wetland babies.
After each child picked out something to show the others and tell them about, we headed out to the trails. We walked two trails completely, and part of another trail, that is across some wetlands. The recent rains made it too water logged and flooded to finish the trail. The park encourages people to enjoy the trails quietly so as to not disturb the wild life. That was hard for my kids, especially Britt who tends to dominate their conversations when they are out hiking. But it paid off, as we saw a possum, armadillo, and an alligator.

We definitely could have spent more than the 3 hours we spent there, and will likely visit again in the future. After all, the park covers an expanse of 1267 acres. The nature center is open from 9 to 4 Tuesday through Saturday and 12 to 4 on Sunday. While the reserve itself is open 6 to 6:30 during standard time, and from 5:30 to 8 during daylight savings time. Visiting cost nothing. If you'd like to make a trip the address to Circle B Bar Reserve is 4399 Winter Lake Road, Lakeland, Florida.
